5 Ways To Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago
With one of us growing up on the Southside of Chicago where St. Patrick’s Day and the South Side Irish Parade were the biggest celebrations of the year, of course we had to share our favorite ways to celebrate the holiday this year. Although there are no parades in Chicago this year and sadly the Chicago River won’t be dyed green, there are still ways to be festive. Check out five favorites of ours: Make Leprechaun Traps This is especially fun for the kiddies and those still wanting to stay safe and socially-distant. Kids can easily create a Catch a Leprechaun trap easily with scissors, paper, markers and other craft supplies. Barnes and Noble also has a great book called “How to Catch a Leprechaun” (available here on Amazon). Dinner at The Gage Located on Michigan Avenue, this Irish-owned restaurant is one of the most sought-after destinations for St. Patrick’s Day (or any day!) The restaurant serves refined, rustic fare complemented by an innovative libations program in a lively, convivial setting. The menu effortlessly blends European influence with American style. Recently celebrating over ten years in business, The Gage continues to be both a respected classic and an innovative leader on Chicago’s dining scene. Create a Bar at Home With the pandemic still in effect and not going away anytime soon, why not turn a space in your home into a fun Irish pub? We’ve been seeing many news stories about bringing home your favorite bar by transforming your home for a change of scenery and we’re on board! There are so many great cocktail kits available and accessible decor that will transport you to an Irish pub right at home! Visit the Irish American Heritage Center Located on Chicago’s northwest side, the mission of the Irish American Heritage Center (IHAC) is to nurture and strengthen Irish culture and heritage through programs emphasizing Irish music, literature, drama, traditional dancing, fine arts, and the Irish and Irish-Americans’ constructive contributions to the United States of America. The center is a destination for people of Irish descent and those who wish to learn more about the Irish heritage. During St. Patrick’s Day they normally host an array of activities including music, Irish dancers, and much more! Have a Guinness at Cork N’ Kerry A staple on Chicago’s southside, Cork N’ Kerry is a must-visit for St. Patrick’s Day! Located on Western Avenue in the Beverly neighborhood - home of the iconic Southside Irish...
